Managed 24/7 Senior Technical Consultant, Steve Salmon, will run three marathons totalling more than 78 miles in just four weeks to raise money and awareness for The ExtraCare Charitable Trust, a leading provider of inspirational retirement villages.
Steve, 31, will begin his challenge with the Paris Marathon on Sunday 3 April 2016. Shortly after, he will go on to complete the London Marathon on Sunday 24 April, before finishing in his hometown with the Milton Keynes Marathon on Monday 2 May.
Steve commented: “Now, more than ever, members of our older generation are at increasing risk of living in isolation, which is why the work of ExtraCare is becoming ever more important. Through the charity’s villages and schemes, older people are brought together to socialise, keep active and simply be shown they haven’t been forgotten.
“It’s a matter very pertinent to my family currently, and I’m keen to show my support. The encouragement from family, friends and colleagues has been incredible and I’m very grateful for, and humbled by, the donations so far towards my £1,500 target.”
The Charity provides homes, care and an inspirational lifestyle to residents in 31 locations around the country, including two in Milton Keynes: Shenley Wood Village and Lovat Fields Village. Research commissioned by ExtraCare and conducted by Aston University showed that, over a 12 month period, total NHS costs reduced by 38 per cent for ExtraCare residents, demonstrating the value of ExtraCare’s services.
Alison Whittingham, Head of Fundraising at The ExtraCare Charitable Trust, said: “Many of us might think about running a marathon for charity, but not many actually do. Running three in such a short space of time is an incredible feat and shows a real generosity of spirit. Good luck, Steve, and thank you for your support.”
